  3.    I was alarmed to learn there is a growing trend toward
  4. criminal prosecution as a way to deal with the problem of
  5. pregnancy and drug abuse (LAW, May 22). Why is it acceptable to
  6. spend tax dollars putting these women in jail instead of setting
  7. up treatment programs that could help them and their unborn
  8. children? Do people supporting the criminal prosecution of
  9. pregnant women who abuse drugs really think this action is
  10. somehow going to stop other expectant mothers from using drugs?
